East Timorese cuisine has influences from Southeast Asian foods and from Portuguese dishes from its five hundred years of colonisation by Portugal. Flavours and ingredients from other former Portuguese colonies can be found in East Timor's present dishes.

The cuisine shares a lot elements of Chinese, Portuguese, and Indonesian but the locals adapt the way of cooking accordings to climate conditions and ingredients. Tukir is one typical dish which is giving proof of the local adaption.
