Fish serré is a traditional Garifuna dish that is a perfect marriage between fish, coconut milk, green plantain and vegetables The dish is enjoyed by numerous locals and tourists
All Belizeans enjoy coconut flavoured rice and beans, or stew beans and rice. Coconut milk based stews include crab soup, conch soup and serré, this delicious fish stew.
In Belize coconut oil and coconut milk are ubiquitous ingredients in both Belizean Kriol/Creole and Garifuna cuisine. Coconut oil and milk pop up in many places: a wide range of breads, soups and stews demand their presence, and the oil is used to fry everything from plantain chips to fish.
When served, fish serré is usually accompanied by cassava bread with fresh plantains.
