Crab Congee

This soup is similar to the traditional Portuguese Canja soup which is basically chicken soup with rice, fresh mint leaves, celery and others, whereas Macanese Crab Congee is rice porridge in chicken soup and main ingredient crab meat.

Chinese porridge as a matter of fact is plain rice congee. This Crab congee dish is made with slow-cooked rice porridge, additional ingredients chicken broth and crab are added to the porridge.

A whole crab is used while cooking the dish and this adds fragrance and flavor. One serving is large enough to feed two. Pepper is an optional extra provided on tables if one might want to spice up the flavor.

A variety of ingredients such as fish, egg yolk and meat can be added, too.
