Fosforera is a typical dish in the coastal region of Venezuela. People attribute aphrodisiac properties to fosforera because of the wide variety of seafood in this soup. And cooking this soup requires a lot of work, but it’s simple and the final result is incredible.

Fosforera is also so nutritious that people normally refer to it as the levanta muertos, which means that it raises people from the dead.

It’s believed that the name of this soup, fosforera, comes from phosphorus since it’s particularly rich in this nutrient.

Some of the ingredients you will find in a fosforera soup are fish head, shrimps, clams, squids, crabs, among others. Besides seafood, it also includes various types of vegetables, for example, onions, tomatoes, sweet chili, and coriander.

The dish is a popular dish of daily meal of Venezuelan and a commonly  served in special banquet.
