Cozonac

Cozonac

Cozonac is a sweet bread, into which milk, yeast, eggs, sugar, butter, and other ingredients are mixed together and allowed to rise before baking.

Kneading the dough is demanding work and the whole process takes a while, but the result is truly rewarding. This Romanian dessert is a type of sweetbread filled with sweet walnut paste, poppy seed paste, or Turkish delight and raisins.

This spongecake is a traditional Romanian dessert typically served during major holidays such as Easter and Christmas. However, as time has marched on, shop-bought spongecakes have become more and more popular as people prefer not to make their own at home.  It can now also be found all year round in stores or fairs, but nothing compares with the taste of a homemade one.
