“Casamiento”is black beans and rice dish in El Salvador. It is the Salvadorian version of popular combination of rice and beans.

Casamiento means marriage in Spanish. The story behind this popular dish is that black beans symbolize men and white rice, women and when they get “married” they both turn the same color; they become one.

It is considered a product of miscegenation, because you are combining beans, a product used by American aborigines, with rice, introduced by the Spanish. And its combination and preparation is the result of African cuisine.
